Meet the team
Hiroto Takeuchi
Founder
Graduated from the Graduate School of Systems Life Science, Kyushu University. He became interested in brain/neuroscience due to his strong tendency toward attention deficit/hyperactivity. Currently, he is involved in the business development utilizing neuroscience at several companies, including Actra Inc. His goal is to provide services and technologies that accompany and encourage people to change.
Hayato Waki
Founder
He worked on the research related to emotional BCI at Univ of Tsukuba in Japan. After experiencing multiple software startups as a co-founder/pdm/engineer in U.S. and Japan, he was attracted to neurotech and started building this media. Now, he also works for Neurons, the Danish neurotech company, as a software engineer. His passion is to become a person who achieves Science-Fiction with creativity and technology.
Toma Itagaki
Podcast Co-Lead
Fourth year Neuroscience student at the University of Washington researching ubiquitous non-invasive neural interfaces and human computer interaction. Toma’s ultimate goal is to quantify the body and mind and develop bio/neuro-inspired personalized assistants to improve the Human Experience.
Hannah Kodama
Podcast Co-Lead
PhD candidate in computational neuroscience at Princeton University. She previously earned her B.S. in statistics at Carnegie Mellon University, where she initially gained an interest in neurotech. She continued her training working with optogenetic stimulation at the National Institutes of Health. She hopes to bring her academic expertise in invasive stimulation to the field of neurotech with the goal of improving human life.
Genji Kawakita
Podcast Interviewer
Master’s student in Neurotechnology at Imperial College London. He graduated with B.A. in Mathematics from Swarthmore College in the U.S. He is interested in consciousness and motor control and mainly work on computational neuroscience research on these topics. His long-term goal is to translate research findings into developing better rehabilitation and motor learning methods. He is also interested in Decentralized Science.
Yusuke Sugita
Community/Event Manager
Master's student in Waseda University. He developed epilepsy during his first year of undergraduate studies, which sparked his interest in the brain and neuroscience in general. Currently, he is interested in the contribution of embryonic development to the acquisition of higher functions of the brain, and conducts research on neurogenesis at the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Medical Science. He is also interested in the collaboration between academia and industry, such as social implementation, and is involved in a start-up support project for BioTech ventures at another organization.
Kai Irwin
Report Writer
A junior at Keio university. He got interested in Neurotech while researching how he can directly put information in his brain, since studying for school was taking too much of his time.He is passionate about turning difficult research papers into easy-to-read formats, so that everyone can learn about cutting edge neurotech research. While participating in a BCI lab at university, he is an engineer in a startup. Also, he is a member of TNK.

Nao Yukawa
Article Interviewer/Writer
A senior majoring in Engineering at the University of Tokyo. While he is doing research on deep learning at an AI research lab in the same university, he is also studying International Business at San Francisco State University. His goal is to contribute to the development of Neuroscience by bridging the gap between academia and industry like Neuralink, a company founded by Elon Musk, is trying to do.
Kenta Kubota
Article Interviewer/Writer
Third-year student in Engineering at Hokkaido University. After attending a lecture by Prof Hiroshi Ishiguro, he became interested in what human beings are and what consciousness is. He has been widely inputting information with the goal of realizing an immortal world.
